Tornado Watch by Deborah W

I grew up in the Midwest. On a July evening when I was about 10 years old, the wind picked up and a storm started to move in. As I looked over the corn rows, the sky turned a very odd shade of orange. A few minutes later, black clouds, thunder, and lightning roiled in the sky. Then, a funnel cloud started to form. The tornado touched down on the other side of town and destroyed a few out buildings. No one was hurt. We were very lucky. Now, I check a weather app and know when a storm is coming. I hunker down in safety before it is too late.

The tornado design in the middle is the paper-pieced Broken Pinwheel pattern by Zoe Mayson. She is on Instagram at @zoemayson with #brokenpinwheelblock.
