Going South!

My bird landed with a big tummy! He is triangular and quilted.. Made with two 9" hand dyed squares.. Stuffed with left over batting and.. Fish tank gravel!... And quite hefty!

Thought would use him for pins and needles (wings for needles!) could be a door stop too! Was fun to make too.

Project Runway birds in the air dress by Caroline MVF

Bonjour Kim!!
A good old classic block, lots of fun!!

I had a half Century Birthday party this Saturday so the idea to make a dress with the block came to me!!

I first made 8, 12 inches blocks... then pulled out a dress pattern I know fits.
I used Gertie’s pattern Butterrick B6453

I used for the bodice the same white fabric as in the big solid triangle.

Smaller white triangles are in other whites.
To dress it up some, I added the matching pipping- made in one of the tulip fabrics.

Showing one of the blocks...
So project runway really meets project quilting on this one!!
Thanks for your help,
Caroline

Scrappy Birds by Barb Roska

Attached is my "Scrappy Birds" quilt for the Birds in the Air Project QUILTING quilt challenge. I had never made this block before. It was fun trying a new block.

I don't particularly enjoy piecing triangles together so I used precut charms for my half square triangles. My quilt measures 38 x 38. I will be donating it to Project Linus.

Project Quilting Challenge 11.4 ~ Birds in the Air

This week’s challenge is to use a Birds in the Air block. I had some leftover light and dark blue triangles, so I pieced those together, found a blue batik for the larger triangle. Then I used the nice blue flying birds for borders!

I decided to make all 6 PQ challenges 18”x12” this year so I’ll have a set of placemats when I’m done. I’m putting a different purple batik on the back of each of them so they are reversible. I’m using a different fancy stitch for each to attach the binding. For the label, I’m writing on the back on the binding.

My quilt is 18”x12”. #ProjectQuilting #pqSeason11

This was created for an online challenge called Project Quilting. You get a week to complete a whole quilt based on a theme. There is no voting this year. Prizes will be given out by random drawing. This week’s theme was Birds in the Air.

The Ugly Duckling by Joan G

One of my favorite books as a kid was “The Ugly Duckling”, so I tried to depict the ugly duckling turning into a beautiful swan.

There sure was a lot of fussy cutting and ripping out to get my ducks going the right way, but “tada”!

Birds in the Garden by Diane C

“Birds in the Garden”, 18 ½” square. Since this week’s challenge was based on a quilt block, I decided to make that my only design element.

Birds in the Air is a traditional block from the time of the Civil War. Since its history dates back so far, I chose 1930’s reproduction fabric for this lovely table topper.

Thanks,
Diane Crawford

Mom by Marylou Finch

Mom loved birds, and pink, and purple.

She has to be in a box until the end of May to fly home on an airplane.

She taught me the love of colors. She died last month at 100 years old.
