My project for the Tuned into Texture challenge is called "Intersections and Curves". It was inspired by the patterns you see in overhead views of highways throughout the country.
It is a small art quilt (10.5" x 8.5"). I machine quilted the plain blue background with parallel and diagonal lines using my walking foot. I then outlined one possible path through the network with a chunky yarn in variegated colors. I also used the yarn to create my connecting curves. Once I was happy with the yarn layout, I tacked it down by hand. I then added the batik border with colors that echo the background and yarn. Working with the bright colors and textures in the yarn and batik border was a wonderful remedy for the cold gray winter we've having here in Michigan.
This is my first entry in the Project Quilting challenge. I saw the interview on Sewing with Nancy and couldn't wait to check out your website. I've been quilting for a long time but tend to use tried and true patterns so the opportunity to try something completely different was irresistable.
Thank you -
