"I had a bunch of bright 2 1/2" squares leftover from a rainbow heart quilt I made for the Orlando shooting victims, and they were the first thought I had when I learned the theme was "bright colors." I was able to make the placemat entirely from scraps and leftovers -- even the back was already fused! I really enjoyed playing with the arrangement and using the warm/cool distinction to create the pattern. After piecing the top I sewed it to the back envelope-style and did a little quilting with variegated thread. The finished project measures 16.5" by 12.5".
This is my first project quilting entry and I learned a lot. It was a real challenge for me to actually completely finish the project on time, and not continue to fiddle and embellish and expand as I usually do. I am really enjoying the fact that it's DONE, though, and not another unfinished project that needs tweaking -- good lesson!
My name is Sue and I hail from Connecticut -- hence the picture on snow -- which really shows the bright colors but not the outline of the mat -- I'm excited to continue with future PQ challenges and will try to do better photography job!".
