This is "Bright Comet" by Jen M. created for the Project Quilting Season 8 challenge 4 - Brighter the Better.
I used 25 bright Kona Cottons and a dark grey for the background with Jaybird Quilt's new pattern Comet. Because the pattern calls for fat quarters, I made a little fat quarter bundle with the fabrics that were left over from my cutting.
I started on Sunday choosing bright pairs of Kona Cotton solids for the shapes. Each pair of colors created 2 of the blocks in the quilt. Just as the Grammys were getting underway....my kitten Richard was helping me lay out the quilt.
I finished up the rows on Monday morning, and started sewing them together. Once I had the top done, I decided to quilt it with very bright orange Signature thread. That led me to choose a backer that would handle that - so I pieced Tula Pink's Moonshine fabric for the backer.
I did continuous spirals for the quilting to offset all the straight lines in the quilt top and followed with a bright orange binding. I finished the hand binding Monday night.
This quilt finishes at roughly 72" square. I quilt in Madison WI.

WOW, Jen!! Fantastic project!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I wasn't sure how it would work out in solids, but I'm pretty pleased. :D
DeleteJaybird patterns work well in bright colors! Great quilt!
ReplyDeleteYou have an eye for color! I like the arrangement of the colors and the quilting really is a nice contrast to the piecing.
ReplyDeleteI love the projects you're making for these challenges! <3
