Old Friend by Barbara M

“Old Friend” is what I have named this challenge quilt.  It is approximately 13” square and was paper pieced with an intricate pattern from an online source.  I enjoyed the challenge of sewing extremely small pieces - less than 1/8” in some cases - and then putting those components together into a finished piece.  This Featherweight is the perfect choice for “A Stitch In Time” because it was one of the first machines made for the domestic market.

Notice the turn crank on the right side - there was no electricity when this machine was invented so manual labor was necessary.  I love the crazy patch being sewn, although the crazy quilts that were so popular at the turn of the last century were usually handmade.  I used reproduction fabrics for the little quilt under the needle.  This quilt was made by Barbara Moore in Tucson, Arizona for the Project QUILTING “A Stitch in Time” Quilt Challenge.
