One! by Iris M

Here is my project for PQ14.1: One!

The Only One by Hannah D

"The Only One"
17" x 17"

This little quilt is made with just one block, a wonky improv log cabin variation. I've had a bit of an obsession with log cabin blocks lately in other projects so it's not surprising I used it here too.

One Entry by Peyton A

The embroidery is “one” I have wanted to do for a long time.

I make floral quilts for cold nurses to say thank you and the embroidery fit in perfectly. Plus I used up some scraps.

Morse De-Coded. One by Nancy M

Season 14 of Project Quilting has begun and Week 1’s theme using “one” is the goal. My entry displays the 3 letters of the word “one” in Morse code. It is entitled, “Morse De-Coded:  One.”  My inspiration for this mini quilt was my husband, who has been an amateur ham radio operator for about 60 years.

When he got his ham license, he had to know Morse Code, which he still practices, and it has been our “house speak” many years. He is also my One True Love, and I dedicate this Morse code quilt of “One” to you, Richard.

A Quilted Sewing Desk Organizer by Mea C

A Quilted Sewing Desk Organizer.

Almost everything used on this project is either upcycled or recycled.

There are magnets (from old purses found at garage sales) on the section that lays on top of the desk as well as in the bottoms of the 3 bins - that way I can rearrange them and they won't fall, or vibrate, off the desk. It also helps to keep my cast iron thread holder in place too.

There are 3 pockets on the hanging side as well as a thread catcher.

Since I used a sepia toned newspaper print fabric showing vintage articles, I decided to use a clock face button (recycled from a old jacket) to hold the thread catcher on the organizer.

I recycled some 1/2 inch pallet strapping from work to stiffen the thread catcher opening.

I used fabric scraps from other projects and frankenstein'd the batting scraps together.

The pincushion has polyester fiberfill from an old pillow.

The only thing I used that was new was the crushed walnut shells I put in the pincushion...I wasn't able to find that at garage sales. lol

A Single Tulip by Claudia M

A Single Tulip - Claudia M, Beaver Dam Wisconsin

While I’m the middle of another project on New Year’s Day, I realized it was after noon and the first PQ Challenge would be posted, I stopped everything to check it out.  As I was reading about ONE, I immediately thought about this paper pieced project from a quilt magazine and knew it fit the theme.  Now to find the magazine - which was found quite quickly - surprise!  The prior project was pushed aside and I started going through my scrap bin.  Found the perfect tulip and white backgrounds and started paper piecing.  Had a few greens picked out as well as fabrics for the clay pot but those needed to be changed out as the tulip blossomed.

Tried long arm quilting….let’s just call it a learning experience! Becoming a professional LAQ isn’t in my future.

One by Maren R

My first piece one.
Just before I read the challenge I started to listen to U2 songs again. And guess which is my favorite? Of course "one".
So when the first challenge arrived i knew that song needs to be part.

While actively listening to the song text i discovered that apart from the personal history it has also a more general message for me: "Be more caring about your fellow humans and other creatures. We have one World. And we should carry each other instead of fighting each other" And I tried to put this in my piece.

It measures 27 x30 cm

I used patchwork, machine quilting with metallic thread and poly sheen multi

Hand embroidery

And i like that the thread tension which didn't work with my 2 different threads in the letters produced a multicolour effect:)

My name is Maren Renz
At present i am living on El Hierro, Canary Islands, Spain
Where i work volunteerly in a dog shelter and renovate a little house and do handicrafts.

The First by Deb M

On the 1st day of this new year I actually had an idea for this 1st challenge. I pieced together scraps of fabric from my 1st quilt class, then I discovered the number 1 is sometimes referred to as unity in mathematics and what would be better than a bit of unity as we head into this year.

It is the 1st time I’ve done chain stitch lettering (which I need to work on) and I did Kantha stitching with perle 8 thread (#ad) to put the top and back together. I learned Kantha in an Alison Glass class. It’s approximately 11”x11”.
