Free Styling & Spiraling Complementary Colors by Cindy M

PQ 17.5 Complementary Colors

On February 28th, I took a class with Mel Beach called “Free Styling & Spiraling” (I highly recommend the class) and I was so happy this new technique would work with this week’s challenge. My first idea was a blue and orange butterfly with spiraling triangles for wings (I have quilt top made but need to quilt, turn it into a pillow and post it at some point). I decided to keep making triangles but switched to purple and yellow.

This approximately 9” by 34” wall hanging was the result. I love the technique but need to see if I can get a more consistent size triangular block – the improv nature of the technique means that not all the blocks are exactly the same size. I didn’t want to lose the spiral on any blocks, so the piece is not rectangular. This was a fun and very colorful challenge.
