When I read this week’s challenge, I immediately thought of South American molas which are constructed by layering fabrics and cutting designs out of the top layer(s) to reveal the fabric below. 
This Valentine mug rug was similarly made by layering fabrics but I began with the inside piece and layered the top fabrics using reverse appliqué. I literally made it inside out!
