Colorful Compass by Barb R

 "Colorful Compass"

When I was trying to decide on a project for the Virtual Vacation challenge, I thought about traveling to unfamiliar places and returning home. Over the years navigation aids changed drastically. Now people can navigate the globe using the technology in their vehicles or on their phones. I decided to pay tribute to a very old technology - the Mariner's Compass.

I found the pattern online. It is Compass of Many Colors by Quilting on the Square. This is my first attempt at paper piecing. I had to remake two sections because I did not sew them correctly, but eventually I finished all eight (somewhat accurate) sections. I layered Insul Brite and one layer of cotton batting inside so I can use this as a trivet on my table. It finished at about 15" square.
