Caesar Augustus by Robyn W

Several years ago we spent a week in Ana Capri, at the top of Capri in the wonderful Hotel Caesar Augustus that overlooked the Bay of Naples. The poster was used throughout the hallways so when we checked out, I asked the manager if there were a copy I could purchase. “Uno momento,” he said, as he walked away. He returned with a poster that he rolled up and gave to me for free. We had it framed and it’s hung is our home ever since. I never get tired of looking at it and I always remember the spectacular time we had. If I ever returned to Italy, Ana Capri would be my first and only stop!

My silhouette is of Caesar Augustus, a statue that I believe resides in a museum across the bay in Naples.

The finished piece is 9 x 11 inches; I free-handed the drawing and cut out the parts, then used a glue stick to secure the raw edged pieces before sewing/quilting them down. Normally, I use a fusible product but I was too lazy! I added some hand embroidery to my scene;  you can even see Mt Vesuvius in the background! And that’s the hotel at the top with its “bella vista!” (beautiful view" ~ from every point!!)

  1. I'm not sure that I would call you lazy for not using fusible (because I did the exact same thing for my entry!) Congratulations on completing your entry for PQ 13.2 and capturing such a wonderful memory in fabric.
