Flying Geese by Pam K

I enjoyed this because it gave me an opportunity to use a paper piecing method to make my geese which I’ve been wanting to try for awhile now.

 Liked making them that way.

Flying Geese Crinkly Toy by Jacomina

Another crinkly toy but this was serendipity. A baby. I made the parents quilted "flying geese" presents for their wedding for which I had the goose fabric printed at Spoonflower.

So, now the little gosling will get a scrap of that and because of who the parents are, his goose will fly in the lead and others will follow. He will get it tomorrow.

Happy Stars by Teri D

I was a little stumped with this challenge because I don’t really make silhouette kinds of quilts. I do have some fabric that looks like a silhouette of trees, but I wanted to do more than just using the print on a fabric.

I looked on Pinterest and found white sawtooth star blocks with fun fabrics for the background.

I tried different settings and settled on a simple table runner. I’m using this challenge to work on my free-motion quilting with rulers.

I’m very happy on how it turned out. This is my Happy Stars quilt because something about it just makes me smile.

Thank you to Project Quilting!!

Caesar Augustus by Robyn W

Several years ago we spent a week in Ana Capri, at the top of Capri in the wonderful Hotel Caesar Augustus that overlooked the Bay of Naples. The poster was used throughout the hallways so when we checked out, I asked the manager if there were a copy I could purchase. “Uno momento,” he said, as he walked away. He returned with a poster that he rolled up and gave to me for free. We had it framed and it’s hung is our home ever since. I never get tired of looking at it and I always remember the spectacular time we had. If I ever returned to Italy, Ana Capri would be my first and only stop!

My silhouette is of Caesar Augustus, a statue that I believe resides in a museum across the bay in Naples.

The finished piece is 9 x 11 inches; I free-handed the drawing and cut out the parts, then used a glue stick to secure the raw edged pieces before sewing/quilting them down. Normally, I use a fusible product but I was too lazy! I added some hand embroidery to my scene;  you can even see Mt Vesuvius in the background! And that’s the hotel at the top with its “bella vista!” (beautiful view" ~ from every point!!)

See Through Tree by Hannah D

Here's my submission for Project QUILTING Challenge 13.2 - In Silhouette!

Title: See-Through Tree
Size: 11" x 11"

This week I decided to make something completely experimental. I wanted to make a silhouette by cutting all the way through a quilt, similar to some of the paper cutout ideas. I started by making a simple patchwork top. Then when making the quilt sandwich I added a layer of heavy interfacing to the batting to make it more rigid. I did matchstick quilting to make the quilt as sturdy as possible. I then traced and cut out my tree pattern. The smaller sections between branches flopped around so I added a beige tulle to the back of the quilt to anchor the pieces in place. Then I used a satin stitch to cover the raw edges and attach the quilt to the tulle backing.

When I started I wasn't sure if my idea would work, but overall I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

Octopus by Cynthia

Attached is my first complete quilt attempt ever!! I’ve been learning to cut and piece over the past couple of months but haven’t done any quilting or binding or anything, so Complete novice here!! But I submit because my son reminded me that trying and finishing is the most important part! So I tried and I finished.

This is Octopus. I’m probably going to redo her as I have learned so much along the way and have such a better feel for what I need to do next time!

Cheers!

Curiosity by Eileen

I am combining this challenge with another activity to do every year. I follow Gretchen Rubin’s Happier podcast and she encourages us to find a word for the year. Each year I use paper piecing and hang the word in my sewing room.

And this year my word is curiosity. I aim to be more curious about things and people to learn more and understand more.
