Immigrant Courage by Sharon Scott

Immigrant Courage by Sharon Scott

This project is in honor of all those immigrants over time who have willingly or been forced to leave behind their homelands, their homes and most of their possessions.  I have great empathy for their bravery.

This piece includes an embroidered circle center given to me by a dear friend and the bird for me represents a bird having to flee their nest as a symbol of the immigrant’s flight.

Edited to add: I just talked to a Chinese artist and she said the image was a Phoenix... the feminine companion to the dragon.

I made a thread painted circle of friendship leaves and vine pattern in metallic gold to surround it.  There was a steep learning curve with the pattern paper transfer method I chose and the thread painting.

Created for the Bold and Brave Project QUILTING Challenge
