This is a confetti landscape quilt, a technique I learned just 2 weeks ago. Batik fabrics are cut into small bits, added to the quilt using 2 layers of tulle, then free-motion quilted. The shiny areas are where I added some Angelina fibers. This is from a photo I took in Georgia.

The challenge was inspired by an upcoming trip to Sanibel Island. I was just looking at photos of a previous trip. The textures of the ocean, beach, and endless shells are fresh in my mind. This is my interpretation of that special place in my heart.

Tile for the Project QUILTING Tuned In To Texture Challenge
I had some old sketches of lanterns, stained glass windows, etc that I always wanted to create in fabric but they just weren't clicking for this challenge. I debated about skipping this week but that seemed a cop-out even with not feeling 100% due to having a cold.
Then, without even thinking, I caught a floor tile pattern in the hospital lobby and I had to snap a photo. Started playing with fabrics and was quickly finished! Tile is 17 1/2 inches wide, 11 inches tall.

Here's my entry entitled "Window Under Water". It finishes at 21" x 22".
For this Tune in to Texture challenge, I saw lots of patterns, but really wanted to focus on an actual texture, rather than a visual pattern. So I was thinking of textures that have been interesting to me and I kept coming back to the corals that we used to have when we had saltwater reef tanks.
I did not want to try to do a reef quilt through glass, though, how it is seen in the home - I was shooting more for the look of what you would see in a boat looking through the water.
So, I decided to do a faux chenille technique, but using various sweater parts for the middle layers of the stack. So, I chopped up some pinks and blues and teals and layered 2 layers of sweaters - then I topped it with a medium blue cotton. I stitched my rows in a sloppy manner to mimic the undulation of the surface of a calmish ocean. Then I cut the top 3 layers, serged around the edges and popped it into the washer and dryer.
I was happy with the result from the washing and then went further to use sweater segments to bind - which turned out kinda like a tube coral.

16x19. Inspired by the bricks on my fireplace and a vase sitting on the corner. Names simply, flowers.

I have just had heart surgery but wanted to do something for this challenge.
Therefore it is not much but it is my 3 dimensional coaster with different types/feels of fabrics embellished for my painted wine glasses. Maybe I can do better next time but at least I did something for this one. All by hand.

This is a 5” x 5” mug mat. My daughter wanted a mug mat, so I combined the need with the challenge. (Project QUILTING – Tuned In To Texture)
When I think of my daughter I think of her love for her chickens. When I think of chickens and texture I think of their feathers. I like the way they layered without being perfect and I liked when the wind blows the feathers the underside is a different texture. I had some fabric left over from the quilt I made for her wedding so I used that. Made half square triangles with a light fabric and the darker blues, then folded them to create the triangles that I then layered together.
I learned I am not a photographer and it is really hard to capture texture in a picture.
