I named my quilt,"OMG!  Quilt Show!"     "LOL!  Batiks!"

This quilt depicts two quilt loving, quilt show-going, fabric fanatics and long-distance friends of mine who have fun times at quilt shows, ...just like I do. I love batik fabrics and it has been very difficult for me to cut into my collection.

I finally let go of that notion and I'm not looking back!  The dazzled ladies batik was the springboard for my quilt's design and hadn't seen the light of day in years. I smile every time I look at it.

July Log Cabin, Yellow TaxiCabin’ for the Log Cabin Focus Through the Prism Challenge

As June was coming to an end I was anticipating the July block choice and hoping it would be a log cabin. It’s my favorite block since it’s so versatile. I challenged myself to do the challenge in ROYGBIV and try use black and white. Yellow is not so easy for me. Imagining black and yellow immediately made me think of taxis. I went to the City Quilter in NY specifically to buy the taxi fabric (and hopefully a few more shades of yellow Cherrywood). I already had shades of grey leftover from another project and a few yellows. The idea came from the MQG September 2014 Pattern of the Month, Chess on the Steps by Krista Kennebury. Check out instagram #improvundertheinfluence.  She has a great method for making improvisational from squares. I added a few red patches like the tail lights and some black and white checks. All the solids are cherrywood.

I decided to use a dragon fly for my purple flower.  I used beads in every circle I quilted on the flower.  I think this is my favorite.

‘How Green is My Minnesota’ by Karen Golden

How Green Is My Minnesota......this summer has been especially beautiful...green and lush. 

The log cabin challenge just called for a green forest and my little log cabins became my trees.  Such a fun challenge!

‘Cabin in the Woods’ by Cheryl Snellgrove

My chosen Cherrywood color was green, used on the cabin's roof & sky. I titled my piece, "Cabin the Woods."

I used the basic log cabin block as my inspiration but decided to change all the seams to curved seams. It was a challenge to piece. Since the seams were curved, I quilted each block with straight lines. After much encouragement from my quilting friends, I jumped into this challenge pool!

I chose blue for my focus fabric for the log cabin block. I decided to
make 4 inch pale blue log cabins as a background for red shoe. I
couldn't find a red fabric I wanted so I decided to use pink. While I
was looking for pink fabric I saw the orange polka dot and loved it,
so I went with an orange shoe. I heard this Cinderella quote years ago
and decided this was the time to use it.
