‘Xmas Geese’ by Zeeda M

This is my interpretation of the flying geese challenge.  When I found this flying geese pattern on a design site I knew I had to make it for this month's challenge.

I like the way the flying geese blocks blend into each other.  I appliquéd arrow blocks and added two geese at the bottom of the block imitating the arrow shape.  The red Cherrywood fabric makes up the majority of the block background.

‘August Reflections’ by Anna Montgomery

I chose red for this month, and in early August, I was thinking of carefree summer days in my Grandmama's sandpile and this little red and blue shiny pinwheel I had out there under her oak tree.

But then, Christian Taylor was killed, and terror began again in Ferguson, and I though...you know, I get to choose whether or not this matters to me simply because I'm white.  That I have a choice is a privilege.  But I'm going to continue to choose to be concerned for the lives of my brothers and sisters until those children of God also have the luxury of daydreaming about a simple pleasure on a hot August day.

Poppies is bases on a van Gough painting of a vase of poppies. The pinwheels are from left over blocks.  They worked perfectly al the centers of the poppies. I used wool batting to make the poppies really stand out.

This was my second attempt at a quilt for this month. I had the idea that I would make red log cabin blocks, off center, and sew them together on point to look like shingles, and make a spooky house out of them. Made a lot of them...2" finished size. Sewed them all together and cut a house out of them.  Didn't work. It's kind of hard to make log cabin blocks look spooky.... they're just too wholesome, or traditional, or something! Started over!  I gave up and used them for my wall. I like them now!!

“OMG! Quilt Show!” “LOL! Batiks” by Roxy Pike

I named my quilt,"OMG!  Quilt Show!"     "LOL!  Batiks!"

This quilt depicts two quilt loving, quilt show-going, fabric fanatics and long-distance friends of mine who have fun times at quilt shows, ...just like I do. I love batik fabrics and it has been very difficult for me to cut into my collection.

I finally let go of that notion and I'm not looking back!  The dazzled ladies batik was the springboard for my quilt's design and hadn't seen the light of day in years. I smile every time I look at it.

‘Soul Sisters’ by Sharon Scott for the Focus Through the Prism Friendship Star Challenge.

This is my June entry called Soul Sisters.  I am fortunate to have a blood Sister and Soul Sisters in my life.  I wanted to combine a traditional Friendship Star with more non-traditional piecing and quilting.  I used a red embroidery thread with a nice sheen to it for the quilting.  For fabrics I chose to add some Cherrywood Scrap Bag fabrics as well as a polka dot gradated fabrics and a watercolor print.

I wondered if the individual square, rectangles, and triangles ever wanted to become themselves again. How would they do it? Here is my vision of a red monkey wrench block struggling to break free from the bonds of its shape and single color.
