This is my Starry Sky Pincushion.

I found a couple of star quilt designs online. I made a final decision on the Starry Sky pattern because it would be easy to get it finished in a week. 

I used left over scraps from a quilt that I made in an online class with Ricky Tims.

Project Quilting Challenge 11.2 ~ Team Colors

My husband suggested high school team colors since he thought everyone would do NFL colors. I expanded on that and did lots of teams that I’ve rooted for over the years.

I used orange and white for my kid’s softball team that my husband coached for 12 years, black and red for my high school and my kid’s high school and college, blue and gold for my nephews’ school and the Milwaukee Brewers, green and cream for the Milwaukee Bucks, red, white and blue for the USA and of course green and gold for the Green Bay Packers! 

I decided to make all 6 PQ challenges 18”x12” this year so I’ll have a set of placemats when I’m done.

My quilt is 18”x12”. #ProjectQuilting #pqSeason11

This was created for an online challenge called Project Quilting. You get a week to complete a whole quilt based on a theme. There is no voting this year. Prizes will be given out by random drawing. This week’s theme was Team Colors. You needed to be inspired by a team you root for and use their colors.

I quilt in Buhl Idaho.

I was born in Wisconsin and forever consider it my home. I can remember many weekends at my uncle’s home with all the family around. The men were playing Sheepshead. The women were in the kitchen fixing way too much food. The cousins were doing what kids do. And the Packers were playing in the background. I am born and bred a Packer fan! Such great memories.

This is my first attempt at a rag quilt. My Dog Milo is my constant companion. His bed needed a new quilt so we made him a packer fan too.

All the directions for making a rag quilt said to clip the edges after sewn with spring scissors. Don’t know what that is and don’t have any. I decided to “clip” the edges with my rotary cutter. After each seam was sewn I used my smallest cutter to cut the edges every half inch. I did clip the stitched seams a couple times. But just went back and sewed over that bit that I cut. Worked great and went quickly.

Made for our UK decorated living room. Straight line quilted in a swirl pattern.

Just Imagine That!

I'm not as such with teams but am in a SAIL Club.. I was going to make a picture of my kind of bland sail... White with orange stripe.. But then thought imagine if all the sails had patterns and colours all mixed!!

This was made with hand dyed fabric and printed (sails).. The tree is confetti cut with tulle over to hold bits in.. And is raw edge appliquéd.. It is always fun to imagine!!!

Tokyo Olympic Games Bunting by Caroline

Happy Sunday,
Bonjour from Nouméa New Caledonia way down in the South Pacific. A French Island North of New Zealand et East of Australia. 

I would like to submit my bunting for the 11-2 challenge. 

My team colors are for the Tokyo Olympic Games of this summer. 

I am all for Olympic Games!! But as we are French we will support “Team FRANCE”!!

I created the blue and white background fabrics to match the Tokyo logo, By piecing bleu and whites fabrics.

Lucky that the word TOKYO has 5 letters for the 5 colors of the 5 rings. 

I appliqued the 5 letters.

Then quilted with a tri color threads “blue white red” 

And decided to use red for the 2020 to accentuate the French colors: blue white red!!!
And voila ready to host an opening ceremony party in July!!

P Wall Flag by 'Lisa Pearson

Here is my entry for PQ 11.2 Team Colors.  I live in a sports free home , but come from a large family and we are a team all on our own.

 Blue was my Dad's favorite color and red is Mom's. Those colors, combined with the letter P for our last name, equals this little flag!! I collect different P's so this flag is now hanging on my P wall.

“Most Seasons are Like a Storm at Sea, but if You’re Lucky, You Find Smooth Sailing” by Diane C

Those who know me well in real life and on Facebook know that I’m a HUGE sports fan. These days I attend way too few games in the four major sports, but I run ladies’ fantasy baseball and football leagues each year and I read the sport section of the San Francisco Chronicle from cover to cover EVERY day.

Almost 6 years ago, my first paper pieced quilt was red and gold with a San Francisco 49ers logo in the center. A couple of years ago, I made logo Christmas ornaments for each of “my” teams. I also made four table runners in the team colors. I pair those up with silk flowers and I rotate them around the house depending on the season.

And to underline it all, the four logos are prominently displayed on the back of my phone.

So, to say I was THRILLED with this week’s theme is quite an understatement. (Thanks, Trish!) I knew I had to come up with an awesome quilt. I usually illustrate the PQ weekly themes with simple, child-like appliqués (I taught kindergarten and first grade for thirty years). This week I knew I had to create a quilt that was worthy of my life as a sports fan. Here’s the result: “Most Seasons are Like a Storm at Sea, but if You’re Lucky, You Find Smooth Sailing” (28” x 28”).

I LOVE IT!

Ohio State Mug Rug by Joan

Here is my Ohio State mug rug.  Not perfect by any means, but I did literally challenge myself by trying to make my own binding.  Let’s just say I learned what not to do!

Seeing Red by Sharon Scott

This is my team colors project called “Seeing Red”. I am a proud alumni of the University of Wisconsin, Madison. “Seeing Red” refers to the mass of color you see at Badger games.
The project caused me to reflect on how our lives were changed by attending the UW and choosing to remain near Madison and raising our family here.

I am enjoying the Quilt Challenge to help keep me motivated during my recovery from hip surgery. I am also enjoying experimenting with fusing, hand stitching and in this case making the bag that I have thought about making for a long time. This is the easy zipper case pattern from Sew Hungry Hippie. It goes together really well and the online video tutorials that she offers are very helpful.

Babydoll Packer Blanket by Siri S

For this challenge, I had to really think out of the box.  Choosing my favorite team colors was easy, but making something was going to be the real challenge; I am in Denver the entire week without my usual sewing tools.  So, with cardboard, scissors, fabric, thread and a 1954 Singer 66 knee crank, I had to get creative!! 

I checked and the Packers did not win the Super Bowl that year (1954) but I found out they won the very first Bowl game!!  How exciting to learn about my team and how to sew without my modern tools!  So here's my mini babydoll blanket for my granddaughter, Akira.

Again, many thanks for the TeamColors idea that gave me the prod to come up with this quilt.  Obvious American Team Colors and Team Colors of the Senegal flag where he will be working.

  If he takes it with him, he could have folks who are important to him sign the back.  Because of limited packing space, if he chooses not to take it with him, I will hang it in his room at home.  Either way, I love the end result.

This is my quilt for the team colors challenge.  My team is the Georgia Bulldogs.  I wasn’t really inspired until I thought about getting to use some of the white and black fabrics in my stash that I rarely find a place to use.  

That was all it took to get me going – that and an extra day off this week.
