Here are FOUR incredible Scrappy House Block quilts made by Jenedel Wilcox.

She made these all during this past year and they were inspired by the 2020 Scrap Quilt Challenge.

Traveling Scraps by Diane

Inspired in Sydney, Hand Made in Australia,  PQ 9.6.  I'm so excited to have completed this project while on vacation this week in Australia.  We flew out at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night, before the theme was announced.  I carried along about 18 fabrics, in the hope that, with what I brought, I'd have what I needed.  In our hotel room on Sydney, was an art print  (all rectangles) similar to what you see here.  That,was my inspiration.

I cut the pieces using paper patterns and my scissors, since I had forgotten a small cutting mat.  I sewed on the tour bus and in our room whenever time was available.  All the seams were measured and marked with a p3bcil so I would know where to sew.  I found a free, thick magazine which I was able use with my rotary cutter to square up the block and the quilt.  It's been completely created by hand, and that was the biggest challenge.  Normally I avoid hand work as much as I can, but this week I didn't have a choice.   The result is something that's not as perfect as I would normally make, but I met my personal challenge to complete it all by hand.  This project measures 8" x 8" and is made from 16 fabrics, counting the backing.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year by Jen Mulder

Here's my entry for Project Quilting 9.6 Scraptastic challenge:

I call it "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" it finished at 72" x 96".

I pulled all of my Halloween fabrics - and then purchased another 12.  I used my Accuquilt to cut 2.5 inch strips of the Halloween prints.   Then I grabbed some black on black and black and white prints for squares and my scraps that were orange, green or purple for other squares.    I have about 40 fabrics in this quilt.   

I sorted the fabrics into purples, oranges and greens/greys and inserted a black and white square and a color square between the Halloween prints.   From there I cut them down to  6.5 inch squares and proceeded to make a rail fence style pattern with the blocks.  

As the top is very visually exciting - I loosely quilted with a large meander with screaming orange thread and bound it in an off black.    The back is purple ghost fabric.

Charm Exchange SCRAPtastic Challenge by Cherese C

#scraptacular #project quilting9.6

Last weekend I was away on a quilt retreat. I was thinking that i probably wouldn't have what i needed for challenge 6.  As it turns out one of my projects fit the Scraptacular theme. 

Years ago some friends and I did a charm square exchange.  I had made a kit from the squares to take on retreat. With 2 more dedicated sewing days left i was in good shape.  Woo hoo!

This quilt contains 84 different fabrics, (out of 85 pieces). It also checks items off of 3 lists: PQ 9.6, AQS UFO challenge,  and my personal goal to make 4 philanthropy quilts a year.

I just finished this last week. It is 105"x105".

It was the spring quilt (I think, or winter, I lost track!) on A Quilt Block a Day. It is completely from my scrap bin and stash. I was happy to have found even the back and binding in there.

This quilt is made out of my blue, gray, and cream fabrics.  I pulled them and cut them into the 10” squares required.  If I didn’t have a big enough piece of fabric I pieced it and then cut the 10” square.  To my surprise I even had a binding made that fit it the drawer I throw my extra binding in!

My Gypsy Wife
I saw the Gypsy Wife quilt online and at quilt shows and thought is was so different, I had to make one.  When I found the pattern at an area quilt shop, I was there!  Including leftover fabrics from a family sewing weekend really makes this quilt special to me. 

My long arm quilter used a variety of patterns and thread colors  just or the vertical strips giving it a very custom look.  Quilt measures about 66" X 58".

Sunburst...is an original scrap quilt using paper piecing crazy quilt blocks.  Quilt measures approximately 60" square.  I had a color sketch that I then sorted through scraps to attempt to recreate. 

My long arm quilter brought it to life with a sun face in the middle, wind and moon in the sky and fauna in the grounds....pictures doesn't show the quilting.

“Sydney’s Quilt” by Julie M

Here is my photo of 'Sydney's Quilt' -- a scrap quilt I made for my niece's first birthday.  

There are 2,240 x 1 inch squares in the quilt.   I ended up rooting through my scraps and ended up fussy cutting over 500 of the squares into a mini I spy.  

She loves to pick the ones that have the I spy!

Made from Kaffe Fassett Collective 2 1/2 inch strips, pieced, cut diagonally, stitched and cut again and then made into blocks. I hand quilted using Purl cotton variegated no. 12

“Low Volume Plus Quilt” for the Scrap Quilt Challenge by Judie H

The Low Volume Plus Quilt I submitted for the Scrap Quilt Challenge is my first attempt to cross the bridge from Traditional to more Contemporary quilt making.  I am not yet ready to venture into Modern quilts with a lot of negative space and graphic designs in them, although they are very striking.  

So I began surfing blogs and was loving the low volume backgrounds that I saw in some quilts. I started collecting photos of my favorites and began searching for low volume fabrics on Etsy.  First time I saw a Plus quilt I just knew I had to make one.  I am not one for using bright colors in my quilts very often, but after making baby and toddler quilts for grandchildren I decided to search through my stash. I surprised myself to find enough bright scraps to make the Low Volume Plus Quilt and a scrappy binding for the quilt I like to name Color Me Happy.
