I am combining this challenge with another activity to do every year. I follow Gretchen Rubin’s Happier podcast and she encourages us to find a word for the year. Each year I use paper piecing and hang the word in my sewing room.
And this year my word is curiosity. I aim to be more curious about things and people to learn more and understand more.

I just learned about this challenge from my quilt guild!
I sewed a colorful marker pouch using felt for my daughter's new easel.
This is my rainbow-ish trout. All the scraps are from my daughter Tina K. It is raw edge applique, hand stitched and embellished. It is about 24"long.

Title: "Gumballs"
This is my first attempt at a clamshell quilt. I wanted to make it a bit more interesting so I added the random contrasting stripes to some of the shells. I didn't have a specific design in mind when I started. I just kept making clamshells and rearranging them until I got a layout I was happy with. It ended up reminding me of a pile of gumballs. The white background was quilted in a grid pattern with the lines just over 1/4" apart. The finished size is 18" x 18".New Crayons

Here is my PQ 13.1 project—Circle of Life. It’s 33” square and will be donated to our guild’s newborn quilt project. Since it’s intended as a baby quilt, I used medium values and pastel colors. I’m sure a young family will get enjoyment from my work.

Here is my version of interpreting the colours:
Excited to be involved this year!
This Strip and Flip baby quilt was my first project of the new year. It is for a New Year's baby boy born to a friend of ours! Measures 42x45 inches. Backed it with soft flannel for some cozy warmth! Pattern is a good stash buster and very easy! Looking forward to the next challenge!
