Cardinal Love Birds by Robyn W

Here’s this week’s entry, “Cardinal Love Birds”. It’s 7 x 9 inches and features 'Flight of Fancy' by Diane Neukirch for Clothworks that I found online at Blue Bar Quilts in Middleton, WI. It has a bevy of birds (are birds a bevy?) all exquisitely drawn and painted. I would have liked to have used the chickadee couple but the cardinals, in all their splendid colors, just made more sense from an artistic sense.

The red and yellow fabrics played well with the birds and who could resist gingham in any color? Not I! I forgot to add a small hanging sleeve while attaching the binding but solved that with a grosgrain ribbon I had on hand. Once I attached the ribbons, I asked my husband to find me a small tree branch. I like the way the branch looks!

I managed two things with this challenge: all fabric was from my growing stash and I have a new ‘rule’ for myself: give it away.  This will be a gift for an unsuspecting friend who loves cardinals.

Created by Robyn for the Project QUILTING Fussy Cut Challenge.
