Envisioning Our Future Home Sweet Home by Carolyn

Envisioning Our Future Home Sweet Home

I used felt, cork, feathers as well as various fabrics, ribbons, and jewelry to design this crazy quilt, which I adhered to a piece of plywood. These elements came from my collection, my mother's, and also pieces I treasure from my paternal grandmother who passed away a few years ago. One day soon, our loving home will be surrounded by trees, squirrels, and birds with a meditation garden out back and lavender, flower gardens, and berry bushes in the yard. Can you find all these elements in this crazy quilt?

Happy hunting,
Carolyn

Crazy Colors Wall Hanging by Katie R

 Challenge 5 “You’re Crazy”

“Crazy Colors Wall Hanging”

Scraps from my Dad’s ties, costumes I made for a performance at church, a bit of purple velvet from a fancy Renaissance costume I made 40 years ago other special fabrics.
The blue brocade in the background was used for the backing to give it some stability and weight. It’s 19”square.

Crazy Quilt Pillowcase by Jacomina

I made a pillowcase from my crazy quilt.   The fabrics are all remnants of the clothes that the women in our group had made by the tailor of the mother-in-law of our guide while we were on a pilgrimage trip in India in 2019.

Most are silk, and I "embellished" or "outline quilted" the leaves in the orange cotton, to give it a focal point.

Crazy Quilt Placemat by Nancy H

Project Quilting Challenge 12.5 ~ You’re Crazy

I used scraps to make 6 crazy quilt blocks for my placemat. I got to use a bunch of different stitches from my machine too!

My quilt is 18”x12”. #ProjectQuilting #pqSeason12

This was created for an online challenge called Project Quilting. You get a week to complete a whole quilt based on a theme. Prizes will be given out by random drawing. Each week is a different theme.

Here is the link to see all the entries: https://kimlapacek.com/2021/02/12-5-youre-crazy-challenge-5-of-project-quilting-season-12.html

I decided to make all 6 PQ challenges 18”x12” this year so I’ll have a set of placemats when I’m done.

I’m putting a different purple batik on the back of each of them so they are reversible. I’m using a different fancy stitch for each to attach the binding.

For the label, I’m writing on the back on the binding.

Crazy for the Steelers by Caroline

Voila my take on Crazy Quilt!! Used my scraps from Challenge numéro UNO!!

In the bottom of bin scraps...

Let’s piece them and create a bigger fabric.

While I was growing the “crazy fabric” the idea to make a pillow cover popped in my head- I’ll be ready for next season.

And voila!!

Did the embroidery of crazy quilts with the decorative stitched from sewing machine.

Study in Blue by Robyn W

 PQ12.5 “You’re Crazy!”

Study in Blue

Normally, I would have hand embroidered my crazy stitches but I bought a new sewing machine a month ago and this project was the perfect excuse to try out several of the stitches that came with it. I was especially interested in the ‘stacking stitches’ option — besides moving in the normal forward/backward directions, it also moves side to side and created the layer of green stems and leaves with the pink flowers. My Sulky thread broke half-way through the first line of green stems and leaves so I had to rethread and pick up where I left off. Obviously, I need more practice using this feature because when I restarted the line, it was off and my stacking line of the flowers was okay until I came to the place I restarted! I also added a simple stitch to the binding, something I don't normally do and I like it! This ‘license to quilt’ has been fun. Thanks, Trish and Kim!

I created one lap-size crazy quilt a couple of years ago and truthfully, I’m not very interested in making another one. However, it might be fun and certainly useful to do another ‘study’ or two as a way to practice the variety of stitches my new machine has to offer.  I’ve only participated in the PQ challenges for a couple of years but I’ve learned a lot in this short time and seeing what others have created has been inspiring. Looking forward (and also feeling sad) to the last one coming up!

I had great fun with this challenge.  I appropriated a bag of ribbons from my grandchildren’s arts and crafts table (should I feel guilty about that?) and went to town!
