I loved this challenge for several reasons:  I finally got to use some fabric from 2014 (Mandy Jo florals), Thicket, and Paint Pots.  

All of these fabrics were in my stash and fit nicely into a baby quilt due later this month!  Win!Win!

I took this week’s Challenge theme literally and designed a quilt of ‘our’ lake in Northern Minnesota.

We’re located on the bay, where you see the little heart. It’s truly one of my favorite
SPOTS; we’ve spent weekends at Big Sand Lake since 1987.

For those of you who have never experienced it, there’s an early to mid summer rash you
can pick up if you spend a lot of time in the warmer shallow waters along the shoreline.
It’s a temporary skin rash caused by an allergic reaction to microscopic parasites
that are carried by waterfowl, semi-aquatic mammals, and snails.
It’s known as Swimmer’s Itch. The rash is red and extremely itchy for a lot of
people and can last a few days or weeks, depending on the individual.

When we bought our lake home in 2009, we named it Wimmer’s Itch, a play on the rash
and our decision to leave our seasonal cabin and buy a year-round home. It’s been unofficially
named the BEST name around the lake!

My quilt is 14” square and is made from Dupioni silk I bought several years ago.

I embroidered the loon and “rough” lettering and added a fourth layer with a backing
nmto cover my hand stitching for a clean finish.

I was looking for a pirate themed card for my brother.  He likes pirates so I decided on this card. 

When the spot challenge came along it was the perfect fit.
