This was something different!.. (I made this during a night while had a couple hours of elec)... I did something weirdly different too! I read the 'line' is actually the Horseshoe bend on Niagra Falls! I've always been fascinated by these magnificent falls! So I printed a pic on fabric then quilted it hoping it won't look weird or distorted.. It came out pretty well I think and there is the Horseshoe line!

54-40 or Fight Freestyle by Nancy I

After watching the Missouri Star 54-40 or Fight Freestyle Quilt Tutorial, I wanted to see if I could use what fabric I had to make a decent size quilt in a week. I've given many quilts away to the kids, grandkids, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews but not all of my own beds have quilts. I liked the alternating blocks of 54-40 with the churn dash block. My blocks finished at 9 inches. I made 7 rows with 6 blocks in each row.

After adding borders, my quilt ended up being 69 x 78 inches. Because I really had to hurry, I didn't stress about color placement. I've decided I like the hodge-podge look!

Don't fight, sleep tight by Jacomina de Regt

This quilt made itself. The same block was in Bonnie Hunter’s Celtic Solstice and had cut for the full quilt but not made a full sized one. Once I made one block, with the pink star, I realized this would be useless. A hot pad for an expectant mother featuring both blue and pink when society has been brainwashed to gender those colors?

So I made a second block with blue and pink but which baby room needs a table runner? Still useless.

So a baby quilt it is, approximately 44 by 44.
The aqua fabric reads sweet dreams to you under starlight and moon beam. And the white fabric was originally a sheet.

So, “don’t fight, sleep tight “

PQ 14.3, 54 4O or Fight

It just was not mine. I just hadn`t ideas or motivation, just wanted do to the challenge. So I finally looked in my scrap box and find some pieces, I just wanted to cut into fabrics. And I also was not feeling doing 4patches ( silly I know) but it was just as it was). But look what I found, a fabric with a print of several nine or so patches included, So I decided to use it as my corner pieces. The Little fox is from the same fabric. Made my blue and red squares and put it all together. 

Top done , so far so good and plenty of time to do a back and finish it up. A day or two day’s later I saw my oopsy. I asked my sister if she could find the mistake. She looked and looked and couldn’t find it. So i thougt I go with it as it is. 

And puzzled a back together.

Today at last I finished it just in time for the deadline.

And then : I just love it !!!

Nothing fancy here but it is DONE!

This was quite fun and fast. I've kinda dredded these triangle in a square things but I had this tool and followed the directions. It was pretty darn easy. My fear is gone. Thanks for the challenge!

Here’s my table topper. I chose to make the block in its original form. However, unlike the patterns I saw, which it turns out used 2 or 2.5 inch block, I started with 3.5 in squares so I think I lost the battle a little because my triangles aren’t really triangles they are pentagons and not regular ones either. 

I enjoyed making the block and it is backed with an orphan block.

Challenge 14.3 entry for 54-40 or fight. I don’t like fighting or conflict, so mine is about the covers on our bed that I have to fight for quite often. (I’ve even started buying king bedding for our queen bed).

The doll I made for our toddler granddaughter needed a quilt so she won’t have to fight for the covers like I do. Also, every color is fighting to be the one to stand out since I chose so many!

Mosaic Tiles by Hannah D

"Mosaic Tiles"

After two weeks of improv projects I decided to go back to a traditional style this week. I love tiny piecing and I've been waiting for a reason to make another miniature quilt. I spent some time in EQ8 (#ad) experimenting with colors and layouts. 

I finally went with this one because I liked the pink flower design and the bright happy colors. Each of the blocks are 3" x 3". The squares in the 4-patch blocks are each 1/2" wide. I used paper piecing for the triangle blocks. There were multiple times this week where I regretted choosing a project with so many pieces! It felt like I'd never reach the end! I'm really happy with how it turned out. It ended up reminding me of mosaic tiles!

Snake River Runs by Kathy P

Here is my Project QUILTING 14.3 54-40 or Fight Challenge piece called "Snake River Runs" chosen for the bubbly-looking triangle fabric I found in a grab bag. 

After I quilted the block I discovered the "tulip" and I can see where that would have been a fun incorporation into this design block. Instead I saw the bubbly river and thought of the salmon runs in that area.

that I could not resist.

Here are my fotos. Please take with or without decoration.

This is my story behind:

The history behind the name 54-40 or fight  was the first thing i tried to find out and read a lot in that night a week before,

when I get to know about the competition.

Very interesting!

 My interpretation is that the four triangles are the compass (1848… needed to find the border between Canada and the States).

The fabric I use - is a homage to a dear lady who donated me a lot of fabric and exactly this gras fabric was waiting for this placemat.

It is the green green gras growing on their graves and remembers me to this lovely lady and my dear grandma. 

"The compass of your live will guide you well - if you trust in yourself“ -  was a phrase both said often to me. 

Then, most important - to mirror the theme -  I picked my well hunted and well-well stored holiday souvenirs - fabric from Canada and 

the States. 

Bought  during our road trips. One we did through Ontario, CA and one we did in the east (States like Michigan, Wisconsin and some others).

The line of squares is for me the long way of the settlers (Oregon trail).

So, thank you for this theme -  it was big fun - great learning! 

I did it without any ruler to create the inner of the block and quilt /stich one evening by hand.
