Whale Necklace by Maren R

First Challenge hit me on the travel in the Algarve, Portugal but i packed some felting wool a needle and 2 colours of thread in my hand luggage:)

My favourite mythical creature is a whale and i decided to make something whalelike.

And i love how it turned out.

Hollow felt, quilted and embroidered with french knots.

A Glorious Winter Tale by Jacomina de Regt

AI generates stories when you ask about mythical creatures in winter. My creature is an amalgamation of several of those created in northern latitudes around the world, following the model of the AI generated story but adapted to the materials I had at hand.

The tale of the lost boy: In the heart of the frozen North, where the wind howled like a wolf and the snow fell in endless sheets, hardy villages and families made their homes and hunkered down. Adults warned the children to not venture out because out there, there was danger. There were monsters out there who might eat you.

One particularly harsh winter, a young boy named Finn, known for his adventurous spirit, wandered too far from his village, getting lost in the blizzard's whiteout.
As Finn stumbled through the snowdrifts, his breath forming frosty plumes in the air, he was relieved when he thought he saw a bit of blue sky, so he changed direction to walk towards the blue. But the blue sky forever receded. He became so tired, so tired, he just wanted to lie down for a while and rest. Snow slowly covered him up. Then the ground began to tremble and Finn emerged from his bed of snow. Out from the blue sky appeared a large creature, the monster Finn was told to fear.

However, this monster had a friendly face. Their voice rang out and urged Finn to rouse himself and find the one magic snowflake that would save him. So many snowflakes twirled around Finn, which one? Then one landed on his mitten, it had little hearts and Finn showed it to the monster. Great energy pulsed from the heart of the monster towards the hearts in the snowflake. This energy magically allowed Finn to get up again and find his way back to his village.

Back in the village, Finn was greeted with relief and joy. But as he grew older, he never forgot. Whenever a winter storm raged, he would be reminded of the snowflake, the kindness of the monster, the magic of the frozen North, a place where even a lost boy could find love in the most unexpected places.

Bigfoot by Pat

 Bigfoot.

I always liked the idea of Big Foot. But he is too big to fit in the quilt.

Mythical Creatures by Carol K

This is my mythical creatures entry for this week’s Project QUILTING 16.1 Mythical Creatures challenge.

I love Laurel Burch and went to my scrap bag for the border. Bright colors make me happy on dreary winter days!  Crib size.
