I really wanted to use my hand dyed fabric as I have so much (addicting!).. And I didn't want to cover it with applique ect instead stitched a feather (out of practice!!) and various quilting stitches for the fun of it.. and have full view of the merging colours.. This was alot of fun!!

Traveling week to a sewist friend’s domicile. She’s a bag maker so guess what? We made a bag!!!!

We used the modified version of the H2O bag by “Linds Handmade design”…. Too much fun too little pictures taken … I created a Fabric with her scraps and then used that “ombré fabric” to cut out the water bottle bag. Fun them of course we spotted ombré everywhere all week!

One must also match her travel book to her travel H2O bag and bottle!! So actually that just happened… I grabbed one scrap box and it was these tones.

My next submission to the Project Quilting Challenge--this is a combination of piecing and applique that is machine quilted. My background is in graphic art which translated well into this submission. Blue is my favorite color!

This is my little quilt.

 I used batiks for the heart and binding, and a cotton ombre as the background. 

I stamped the background with a large ‘love’ stamp using gold ink.

 Another fantastic challenge.

I made my Ombre felt and then i got carried away a little bit. 

I was using the colours from the mythical creatures and i think there was still a creature in the wool who wanted to come out.

I cheated and stitched only through 2 layers because couldn't fiddle batting inside and no more wool left for another project.

I've been collecting photos on Facebook, putting them into albums I might use for inspiration. PQ16.2 "Ombre" gave me the opportunity to use this simple picture of a snowflake. While I'm not totally thrilled with the outcome, it was a good lesson and gave me the chance to practice thread painting and work on improving attaching my binding on the back. I've often struggled with that but recently I learned using a stitch-in-the -ditch foot is the key to a more-finished binding. This one is perhaps the best I've ever done!

This piece finished out at 9" x 11" and is pieced with appliqued limbs that were thread painted; the snowflake is thread painted and the entire block has been quilted in a small loopy fashion using Madeira Rayon thread.

I was delighted to find a backing in my stash of fat quarters that worked so well with the work!

PQ 16.2 Ombré

This week’s theme is Ombré. I chose to create my ombré fabric. I added small creatures and the sun of course!

My quilt is 7”x5”. #ProjectQuilting #pqSeason16

I decided to make all 6 PQ challenges 7”x5” this year so I’ll have a set of postcards when I’m done. For the label, I’m writing on the back with a fabric marker.
