Of Another Era by Jacomina

This challenge, "era", came into focus when the death of Rev. Jesse Jackson was announced this week. The Rainbow Coalition was started during his 1984 presidential campaign and two sentences from his speech at the 1984 Democratic Convention is often quoted. However, there was a third sentence which I used to design my challenge this week.

The quote:
"America is not like a blanket -- one piece of unbroken cloth, the same color, the same texture, the same size. America is more like a quilt: many patches, many pieces, many colors, many sizes, all woven and held together by a common thread. The White, the Hispanic, the Black, the Arab, the Jew, the woman, the Native American, the small farmer, the businessperson, the environmentalist, the peace activist, the young, the old, the lesbian, the gay and disabled make up the American quilt."

It was great fun to search my stash to represent some of the many facets of this American quilt. Of course, rainbow colors in three blocks, but also:
- a block which bring rural and urban together with urban folks visiting rural areas in their campers;
- a block representing USA in its colors and constitutional institutions;
- Native American/South West;
- African American and Kwanzaa;
- one block focusing on love and cooperation; and,
- one improv blue/green block to represent the environmentalists.

The back is cheater cloth, depicting yet more hearts to urge us to love another.

The "bear hug" quilt will go with a stuffed animal to a child in trauma.

Created by Jacomina de Regt for the Project QUILTING 17.4 Of Another Era Challenge.
