Snail's Tail Crib Quilt by Bill H

Here's my Snail Trail quilt. I went a little nuts, due to the cold weather and made a crib quilt! I made 32 Snails Trail blocks and made my own layout design.

I am not at all experienced with on-point construction but look what I did! I'm proud of myself.

Snail's Trail table topper by Joanne M

I made a 19" table topper with a spring theme to brighten up my table. I quilted it on my embroidery machine using a stipple design. With all the snow outside, this helps me look forward to Spring and warmer weather.

Snail's Tail by LuAnne P

 Snail’s Tail

This is my first entry for Project Quilting.  While in Florida, I found a really cute flamingo panel and decided I wanted to try making the Snail’s Trail block to see if I liked it to make a border for the panel.  I used white on white flamingo fabric as the background and pink and green fabric that coordinates with the panel.  I quilted in the ditch around the trail.   I used a fancy stitch on my binding and wrote the label information on the back.

My quilt is 6” x 6”.  #ProjectQuilting #pqSeason12

Fat Quarter Shop Cross Stitch

The 3rd Snail Went off Trail by Liz A

This was fun.  I learned a lot. It was my first time with a Snail Trail block.

My project is three coaster/mug rugs,  two for a friend (with proper snail trail designs) and one for me. The pieces were made from my stash.

I had planned to make four blocks into a small table centerpiece but re-focused when the  third snail wandered a bit and I discovered I was short of green fabric.

I used a template from AQS2019 for the pattern and paper pieced al three of them using old fashioned type-writer paper and determined  that using a very short stitch length (1.5 on my Viking), the paper was a cinch to remove.

Title is "The 3rd Snail went off Trail".

Project Quilting Challenge 12.4 ~ Snail’s Tail

Originally I was going to make 6 blocks for my placemat but I ran out of time and decided to do just one.

My quilt is 18”x12”.  #ProjectQuilting #pqSeason12

This was created for an online challenge called Project Quilting. You get a week to complete a whole quilt based on a theme.  Prizes will be given out by random drawing.  Each week is a different theme.

Here is the link to see all the entries: https://kimlapacek.com/2021/02/12-4-snails-trail-challenge-4-of-project-quilting-season-12.html

I decided to make all 6 PQ challenges 18”x12” this year so I’ll have a set of placemats when I’m done.  I’m putting a different purple batik on the back of each of them so they are reversible.  I’m using a different fancy stitch for each to attach the binding.

For the label, I’m writing on the back on the binding.

Snail's Trail by Michael B

Below is my Snail’s Trail quilt block for Challenge 4 for Project Quilting Season 12.  For a few years, I have considered making a Snail’s Trail quilt. Doing a small project first seemed like a great idea. I raided my wife’s fabric stash for the materials. ðŸ˜€

The Confident Stitch

Snail's Trail by Diana B

This is my Snail’s Trail block. It’s not my favorite block and I had idea of what to do with it.

I used batik and African fabric from Ghana. I wanted a more diffused look and with less contrast to blur the block. It’s 11” x 11” (smaller that my usual 12” x 12”). I will kiss and tell...if you look closely at the pattern, I made a mistake someplace and the seam overstretched further than it should. I added camouflage buttons, the color of the fabric to cover my booboo. Just snitching’ on myself.

It’s machine pieced with Heirloom batting and cotton backing. It’s hand quilted with DMC embroidery thread.

I used sari silk for the borders and machine stitched with monofilament thread. I added beads and sari silk to make the tassel. I feel much better about the snails trail block and may even use it again.

Journey to California aka Snail Trail by Robyn W

Journey to California aka Snail Trail

Robyn Wimmer

As a life-long hater of snails, I almost didn’t participate in this week’s Challenge! Ok, hate is a strong word so let me just say, I’ve always found them disgusting. I also had the last of five Project Linus tops that I needed to finish quilting. BUT I value the opportunity to learn a new skill so I decided to make a block. Mine is an approximately 12-inch square and is more of a conceptual idea because I decided to call it by the inexplicable name of “Journey to California” that was listed as another name for this pattern.

I’m a Native Californian, transplanted to the Midwest nearly 50 years ago. I’ll always be a California Gurl so I’ve used yellow fabrics to depict the Golden State and if you look closely at the borders, you’ll see starfish, sand dollars, sea urchins and other marine life that lives in the Pacific Ocean along the coastline.

I inadvertently trimmed up to my points but I didn’t have time to start over; I went with what I had and added the borders.

Then it was on to my favorite part off quilting, the binding.

Thanks, Trish for pushing me out of my box. I’m glad I made the block although I’m not sure I’ll ever do it again. That said, I am in awe of the many creative quilts that came out of this block. Two patterns in particular took my breath away; all of the cats and witches are spectacular and kudos to each one of their creators! Thank you ALL, for sharing your talents with us. ðŸ˜Š ❤️

Hi Hi Silver! by Amanda R

14"x16"
Hi Hi Silver!

My Snail Trail is not pieced at all!! It is totally whole cloth painted with silver paint! I had some templates from an old school quilt I've been making (for quite awhile!) they came in handy for this. The black background is cotton and the snail trail is black cotton painted.

It was a good practice for quilting and was much fun!!!

Snail Trail Topper by Barb R

 Snail Trail Topper

I decorate the sill of my bay window for holidays but my everyday topper was faded. So I decided to make one for the snail's trail challenge. I found a pattern for a six inch snail's trail block.

I went through my stash and found some green and white fabrics to use. I did not have a pattern so I made it up as I went. I had never made this block before. It was fun.

I’ve always liked the Snails Trail pattern but symmetrical blocks, not so much. I skewed the pattern to fit into a rectangle shaped mug rug.
