Time for Nancy To See Venice

My office mate is retiring after 27 years, and I’ve had trouble deciding what to make for her.  She and her husband plan to do lots of travelling and hanging out with the grandchildren.  I knit half a scarf in fun novelty yarn, but it ended up looking like a boa….

21127

Then last week I took a new project bag to work.  When Nancy saw it she said, “Oh, I’ve always wanted to go to Venice!”

Thank you, Nancy, for making my choice so easy – and giving me the inspiration to combine 2 projects into one.

This bag is quilted and pieced.  It measures 13” wide, 9” high, and 5” deep.  Whether it travels across the ocean or just to the park, my friend Nancy will have a little view of Venice wherever she goes…..

……and a pocket for her cell phone!

My name is Sue and I create in West Hartford, CT.

This pieces represents the birth of my daughter.  The time waiting to meet her was up.  It was also Valentine's day, which is where the hearts come from.  There was a snow storm too, so that's where the snow flakes come in.

Thanks,

A bomb countdown was the answer and I already has fabric collected to make my youngest a minion quilt.

I am so excited because with this finished, I have my first year of all 6 project being completed and submitted :)

It’s About Time

My project is called "it's about time." I bought this fabric as a bundle back in 2011, with the intention of making "something" for my mom.

20170319_095722

My mom passed away in 2014. She also loved her naps. So, it's about time I used this fabric, and it's about time for a nap. I'm planning on giving it to my Dad. I hope he likes it as much as she would have.

Time is Up Pot Holder

~~~~
My name is Charlene Morris,  I live in Rex, GA.  Kristin McCoy, a friend, invited me to complete this challenge.  I have enjoyed in from beginning to the end.  She contacted me and said the theme was time.  I was cooking and the buzzer was screaming " time's up".  So I decided a casserole pot holder table runner would be perfect(I needed a new one anyway). It was a rainy day and week that I saw many rainbows and since I work at night and leave work as the sun comes up it inspired me.
_20170319_051001
My project is 10.5x34.  The Sunshine's are actually pockets to put hands in to remove hot items from oven.  The rainbow bargello is not of the norm but I thought it was creative.  My project has Insulbrite and cotton batting as batting and cotton thread for longevity. I quilt curves in bargello and the Sunshine's have rays..
From Beginning to the END
From Beginning to THE END....my work is a concept piece that starts with a blank slate (at the bottom) and grows with ideas, shapes, color, pieces and is eventually a finished piece , meeting the deadline and ON TIME.
IMG_0848 (2)
It is a wall hanging 15" by 42" and will hang in my office to remind me about going from a concept idea to a finished project while meeting the deadline.  This was really fun and actually was completed in 4 hours in one session - which I HAVE NEVER DONE!  The fabric is "MONET" art panels.
Cuckoo Quilt
For this week's Project Quilting I took inspiration from my Grandparents' cuckoo clock. This is a clock they got in Germany in 1987 in honor of their 40th wedding anniversary.
image3 (3)
I always loved seeing this clock at their house as I grew up. After my Grandmother passed last year I asked to have this clock. I worked with a clock maker to fix it and now have it refurbished and running for my kids to enjoy.
image2 (3)Since this is the inspiration, I wanted to take elements of it for my piece, not necessarily remake the clock. I looked to the clock for flower colors and chose to represent the clock aspect by using 12 flowers. Just like the clock, everything is mirror imaged.
With quilting I added the cuckoo bird, his door and a pinecone.
Winter’s Time is Up
So.....being out of town with no sewing machine and NO FABRIC I really did not expect to be able to do this last challenge.
image1 (13)
I had brought a wool appliqué kit with me for something to do, and maybe the off chance that it would fit the theme. And it does! The flower and butterfly represent that winter's time is up. We are ready for spring!
Design It, Stitch It: Hand Embroidery
The Phoenix
I just finished a small 14.5 x 16 wall hanging for Project Quilting Season 8 Challenge 6, Time Is Up. The Phoenix, when it's Time Is Up, bursts into flames and a new bird is reborn from the resulting ash. In addition, the rising Phoenix is also the symbol of Atlanta, which also had a sad time call this year.
Project Quilting Time Is Up Challenge6 Season8 170318a
I live in Kennesaw, GA - just outside Atlanta - and that was a bitter disappointment for us all. I used a black mystical swirl batik for the base and backing, quilted with black thread bird feathers and finished with a machine embroidered Phoenix overlay. The wall hanging is self bound. It does lay flat when hanging but would not straighten out when posing for this picture.
PQ8.6 Time Is Up
My inspiration is "It Ain't Over Till The Fat Lady Sings"
It Ain't Over
When I travel out east to visit my brother we always take in a Red Sox game if in season. My brother always says this quote in the last inning especially if the Sox are behind. It's a thing!!!!
It ain't over till (or until) the fat lady sings is a colloquialism and has been classified as a proverb. It means that one should not presume to know the outcome of an event which is still in progress. More specifically, the phrase is used when a situation is (or appears to be) nearing its conclusion.
Well this lady is singing!!!!
Timeless Hourglass by Barb R
An hourglass was used hundreds of years ago to tell time.  It was a simple device that could be turned over to be reset.  Now we don't need to rely on hourglasses, the sun, or a sundial to tell time.  We have wristwatches, wall clocks, atomic clock. cell phones, computers, calendars, etc.
Timeless Hourglass
Occasionally people use the "timeless hourglass" to cook eggs, or play some board games.  Using computers, we sometimes have to wait for the computer to do its thing.  What appears while we wait?  An hourglass!  My 29" x 29" table topper has a disappearing hourglass block surrounded by a while border with hourglass blocks in the corners. I call it the "Timeless Hourglass."
“Tick Tock”
Tick Tock...
As a child, I remember having a toy clock that was made of many colorful gears that I could crank to make them turn.  Then, as with all toys, it broke so....time was up!
image1 (12)
I came up with this design thinking of that old toy.  Machine appliquéd to fabric with circles of gears using a stitch that looks like the serrated edges of those gears of long ago.  Design is not centered on the fabric to give the illusion of the gears moving out and around as turned within that old toy.  22 by 18 inches.
A Quilter’s Paradise
A Quilter's Paradise
0.08 is the ticking deadline.
A Quilter's Paradise
The chimney declares a quilter's addiction. The palm trees, her process. The attic is made up of fiberglass window screen and vinyl printed stress. The question mark is made of hardware cloth. Her gutters show her being under the influence of fabric. Her philosophy of happily shopping for fabric is her door. The fabric discount card under net is her enabler. Selvedges count the variety of fabrics and colors in her stash. The path to her studio is lined with sewing machines and tools to her success. Her body is an hourglass made of sheer ribbon and her hands are on her hips because of her fast approaching deadline. The fiber artist text is free motion quilted and is the foundation of her happy place She embellishes her studio with pins from many quilt shows and organizations that also enable her.
“Bomb Squad at Work
Two miles from my house day before yesterday, a "device" was found in a motel. The bomb squad destroyed it in an empty field.   In  my quilt,  it is rendered inactive!
Sunset Swirl by Jen M
I call my quilt Sunset Swirl.   It is from the Beginner's Bargello pattern and finishes at 47" in diameter.   I chose sunset colors of Kona Cotton for the end of the day.   I have never made a quilt in a circle before.
Cutting this quilt means that I have another quilt cut at the same time!    This was my first experience binding a round quilt, and it worked out well.   :D
